100% NETTLE or RAMIE fabric.

Ramie is a perennial crop, known as Chinese nettle "Boehmeria
Nivea". This plant belongs to the nettle family " Urticaceae ". Plant origin is subtropical Asia, in particular, China, Brazil, and the Philippines also produced ramie fibers. Ramie plants can grow from 150 to 180 cm tall.

Ramie fiber is the strongest of bast fibers since it is rich in cellulose. For example, ramie fiber is 8 times stronger than cotton fiber, and ramie fiber becomes even stronger when wet! This fact makes 100% nettle or ramie fiber fabric a great choice if longevity in clothing, bedding, or any other textile product is important to you - because such a strong fiber fabric in a sewn product, with quality seams and proper care, will last for decades!

Nettle is a very underrated plant. Without realizing it, it was once and for all considered a weed. White ramie fibers with their silky feel and shine are very suitable for fabric production. Like flax and hemp, nettle is one of the oldest fibrous plants that humans have learned to process. Nettle and other plants have now been replaced by flax and cotton grown on an industrial scale, but conventionally grown cotton is doing a lot of damage to the environment! About a quarter of all pesticides used in the world are used in conventional cotton plantations, depleting the soil, polluting the air and water! In addition, cotton only grows in certain climates and must be transported long distances. Nettle is much softer, thinner, silkier, and more flexible than hemp, it is cheaper to grow and produce than flax, and there is nothing to add about the environmental side of the issue. No chemicals, fertilizers, or a special climate - so it must be a weed! Nettles are not afraid of rain or dehydration, just give it a free choice - it will cover the whole of Europe. Nettle cloth is not only practical but also useful, because it has excellent healing properties, the effectiveness of nettle in the treatment of several diseases has long been known and proven. Nettle stems (from which nettle or ramie fabric is made) and leaves have pronounced antiseptic, antifungal, hemostatic properties. Therefore, nettle bandages relieve inflammation with radiculitis, muscle pain. They are effective in migraine, lung, uterine, kidney, hemorrhoid, and intestinal bleeding. Together with all the mentioned ecological and economic benefits, it turns nettle fabric into the MATERIAL OF THE FUTURE!

Few historical facts-

It is claimed, that ramie fiber was used for textile production in China more than 5000 years ago. So it is one of, if not the oldest, natural vegetable fiber type, which uses a person. Soldiers of the French Emperor Napoleon also wore a "burning" uniform. This plant actually has several advantages over flax. First, the yarn made from ramie is softer because it is not made from leaves, but from hollow stems. Secondly, due to the same cavity, it has better thermal conductivity than laundry. It is cooler in summer and warmer in winter. Thirdly, nettle yarn is much cheaper than flax yarn and its production process does not pollute the environment so much. Also, it is argued, that the Egyptians imported ramie fiber and textiles around 3000 years B.C.

Nettle fabrics were also widespread in the Middle Ages. Then the nettle cloth was forgotten for centuries and was remembered again only during the First World War. Then Germany faced a shortage of cotton, which is needed for the production of military uniforms ... Practical Germans remembered such cheap and affordable raw materials as nettle. The form turned out to be very durable, light did not wrinkled. But what is most interesting, it turned out that it protects better against cold and heat than cotton and linen. It has a lower thermal conductivity, so it is better suited for extreme temperatures. Unfortunately, after the end of the war, nettle cloth began to be perceived as a symbol of wartime difficulties, it was forgotten again.
